December 12, 2006 Ko Lanta, Thailand

December 12, 2006
Ko Lanta, Thailand

Jackie and I got up this morning at 9:00. I headed up to the main office to settle our bill while Jackie finished packing her things. Then, Lisa, Alicia, and I made a trip to the nearby market to utilize the ATM. When we returned Jackie had finished packing and we decided to grab some breakfast.

While eating breakfast we decided that instead of leaving Ko Lanta and going to Railay Beach for a day we should just stay where we were and relax. It also gave us the opportunity to spend some extra time with Lisa and Alicia. Just as we finished our conversation a gust of wind blew my glasses off the table and down the cliff!

Incredibly, one of the staff members jumped over the edge and climbed down the wall to retrieve them for me. Somehow my glasses landed on a plastic bag connected to one of the trees jetting out of hillside.

We returned to our room and resituated ourselves. After changing into swimsuits we headed down to the beach (12:00ish). We spent the next five hours relaxing on the sand and playing in the water. It was a very hot day and we had to spend a lot of time in the water (and reapplying sunscreen).

While building a sandcastle on the waters edge a live clam washed up next to me. It was really cool to watch him start digging into his hole. I snatched him up and spent a long time playing with him and watching him dig around.

At exactly 5:07 (Lisa’s plan) we left the beach and ventured toward a strip of food stands and convenience stores. Lisa and Alicia grabbed some dinner while Jackie and I enjoyed delicious fruit shakes. When the girls were finished eating Jackie and I headed up to the room and showered off. Just as we finished preparing for the evening the other girls (who made a trip to the market) returned to take showers of their own.

Jackie and I then headed down to a nearby bar to get some dinner. As we ate rain started hammering down incredibly hard. The path became a river and we were forced to move from our cool outdoor table to a normal one inside. Still, the bar was one of the coolest I have ever been in and had an amazingly chill atmosphere.

At around 7:30 (after the rains stopped) the other girls joined us at the bar. We spent the remainder of the evening enjoying a few intoxicating beverages. Everyone was feeling a bit tipsy (especially Lisa and Jackie) by the time we returned to the bungalow to get some sleep.
