December 7th, 2006 Bangkok, Thailand

December 7th, 2006
Bangkok, Thailand

Jackie and I got up this morning just before 9:00. We quickly got ready for the day and headed down to Khao San Road to met up with my dad. We found him a few minute before 10:00. We cruised the road for a few minutes and then got in a cab and headed for the MBK shopping complex.

It was an absolutely massive shopping mall. We spent about 2-hours shopping around together. I purchased some fancy clothing items and then mostly watched Jackie take care of her shopping.

At around 12:30 I needed a break from shopping and suggested we go to lunch. We made our way to the 5th floor and found a really cool food area. There were many different stands, each serving food from a unique region of the world. We all went with a combination of Thai and Vietnamese food.

After lunch we split up so that Jackie would not be hindered by a male presence. My dad and I wandered around the mall for a while longer and then decided to visit the malls movie theater. We decided to see De Ja Vu in the VIP theater. It was the nicest movie theater I have ever been in. Everyone was seated in a large, soft recliner with a blanket.

It turned out to be a long, strange movie. We didn’t get out until after 17:00 and then had to hurry off to meet up with Jackie. After 8 hours of shopping Jackie was burnt out. It was the first time I have ever seen her tired of shopping!

The three of us jumped in a cab and headed for Ben’s house. Once there we chilled out and went through the purchases of the day. We then got on the internet and made some plans for the next few days while we waited for Ben to get home from work.

When Ben got home we all headed to the local German Beer Hall for dinner. It was a fun restaurant reminiscent of a mini-Oktoberfest. We ordered some great food and a lot of beer. It was the first time that I have ever eaten fried pig knuckles and Jackie had a passion for the sausages and sauerkraut (even wanting to order a 3rd plate). Dinner was made really fun because of the live entertainment. We were treated to many live musical performances. The evening started out with traditional music and then transitioned into pop music.

We left the restaurant at around 23:30 feeling slightly tipsy. We chilled out at Bens for a few minutes and then caught a cab back to our hostel and went to sleep (1:00am).

A few things.

1st - Matt is rocking the GME shirt. That is awesome.

2nd - That theater is amazing. The only other thing that would rock is if each seat had a giant bowl of Reese's Pieces by it. I think I will start up such a business here.

3rd - Ronald McDonald is so culturally adapted.
