Ko Lanta – In Transit, Thailand
Everyone woke up this morning at around 6:00 and recapped the events of last night. After the discussion Jackie and I went back to bed while Lisa and Alicia prepared for their departure (8:00).
I woke up for the second time just after 9:30. I went through some photos and did some work on the blog. About an hour later Jackie got up and we began packing our things. A fem minutes after 11:00 we headed up the hill and proceeded to check out. Our bill was a little large than expected because there was some confusion about who paid for the room (us or Lisa and Alicia). Eventually we figured it out and then jumped in the truck with some other tourists and headed for the local dock (with no time to eat lunch).
By the time we arrived at the docks Jackie and I were starving. We went to the first food stand we found and filled our bellies. At 1:15 we boarded the ferry headed for Krabitown (350 baht). The boat was surprisingly empty so we had time to sprawl out all over the seats. Still, I was unable to fall asleep during the 2-hour journey.
As soon as we arrived in Krabitown we jumped on the internet and figured out where to meet up with B and Spizzle. We hired a taxi and went to their hostel. It was good to see the boys again! We have not seen them in 9 days! After catching up and exchanging a few stories Jackie and I purchased bus tickets to Bangkok (Spizz and B had already bought their tickets).
At 4:00 a minibus came and took us to the main tourists bus station. We chilled out with the other passengers and purchased some snacks for the long journey. At 4:45 (15 minutes late) we got piled onto the bus.
It was a long 2.5-hour journey to the bus hub of Seratoni (Sp?). Jackie and I ended up on a seat that was not properly bolted to the floor. As a result, our seat rocked back and forth during every bump, turn, acceleration, and brake. Jackie was convinced that the seat was about to collapse.
Eventually we made it to the bus stop and gathered our belongings. We grabbed some dinner and used the facilities while we waited for our next bus. At one point I went to the bathroom and waited in line for about 15-minutes before realizing that the person in the bathroom was taking a shower. I was told to use the lavatory upstairs. I wandered through several bedrooms before finding the toilet…
Around 7:00 our Bangkok bus arrived. We said goodbye to B (who is headed to an island to become a certified diver) and jumped on board. The bus seats had almost no legroom. It was the most uncomfortable 8 hours of my life. Almost every part of my body was hurting after a few hours. Jackie and I tried numerous positions but could never get comfortable (Spizz was lucky and the seat next to him was unoccupied). Making matters worse, the AC was full blast and it got very cold on the bus. We were in and (mostly) out of sleep for the entire journey.
