September 17th - Firenze, Italy

September 17, 2006
Firenze, Italy

This morning when I woke up it was still raining really hard! It sounded like pebbles hitting our canvas tent. Tom Storm and I woke up around the same time (10:00). He went to shower and I grabbed my stuff and headed up to the common area. Pete was freaking out because he lost his key to his tent. Eventually, we all gave up and went to check out. We were able to get off without paying for the lost key.

After checking out we said goodbye to Tom Storm and started walking to our new hostel. We had to walk down into town and then across Florence all the way back to the train station. It was the longest walk we have done with our packs yet (about 35 minutes). We got the the new hostel just after noon.

Unfortunately, the new hostel does not accept check-ins between 12:00 and 3:00. Still, we were able to drop off our packs and cruise around town. We stumbled across the finish line of a bike race going on in town. We also checked out some of the cool museums (though we did not go in any of them) and architecture.

We headed back to the hostel just before three. We had to wait around the lobby for almost half an hour before being allowed to check in. We did not get settled in and cleaned up until just after 4:30. By then B was tired so Pete and I explored the city some more on our own. We cruised through a gigantic market and attempted to go into a museum right by the river but did not want to wait in line for 2 hours (the actual forecasted wait time). After about an hour and a half of exploring we got really hungry and headed back to our room.

After waking up B we all went to dinner. I purchased Pete his dinner because it is his birthday on the 19th and I will not be around to celebrate with him. We have become good friends on this trip and at least wanted to get him something. When we finished with dinner we got some gelato (supposedly first created here in Firenze). By the time we finished with all of our eating we headed back to our room to chill out for the night. We chilled out and watched some old Entourage episodes.

We were forced into a relaxing day by our hostel situation. Even so, it was nice because the weather was so bad again today. Tomorrow is forecast to be better so I am looking forward to seeing the sights!

NOTE: sorry no pictures today but I promise tomorrow will be loaded!

Hey Sean....because I am so technically challenged, I had Jackie show me how to message you. I've been enjoying reading your blogs...but have really enjoyed the pictures. They are so clear and amazing. Do you know how blessed you are to be able to see these wonderful sights? (Well maybe not the Red district) Well catch you tomorrow. love, Ginny (and Larry)

I am wondering about all of these lines that people are waiting in... any of them have French human robots as entertainment? ha ha. Still loving the blog!
I miss you so much!

PS I love all of the opportunities that us bloggers have had to make "Eurotrip" references...
